Our webinars are targeted towards legal representatives and those providing COI support in and beyond the UK.

Please note that it is strongly recommended that you have attended our basic Country of Origin Information (COI) or another basic COI webinar before you attend the specialised disability focused webinar.

The webinars include some interactive activities, and we make use of whiteboard tools such as Jamboard, therefore we recommend you familiarise yourself with Jamboard before attending a session.

 

 

This basic training webinar will cover the following topics:

• What is country of origin information (COI), when can it be used and what are its limits
• How to frame research questions and develop a research strategy
• Identifying sources of COI that address these questions and applying practical research techniques
• Understanding quality criteria for researching, selecting and presenting COI
• Presenting COI to decision makers according to best practice in the UK
• How to request research from Asylos and ARC Foundation
• Background and information on how to use the Afghanistan COI Repository

 

Disability-specific training webinar

In this thematic webinar we will focus on disability in the context of international protection claims for persons with disabilities and disability-focused country of origin information. The webinar will introduce COI researchers to models and understandings of disability and include a review of the legal context for international protection claims for persons with disabilities, and what this means for conducting disability-focused COI. Drawing on principles for conducting COI research for persons with disabilities, we will work together to develop a research strategy based on a case study. Practical exercises will focus on identifying key issues and research topics, taking an intersectional approach. We will work on formulating research questions, identifying relevant sources and use of terminology, and on including the voices of people with lived experience in COI research.

 

All webinars will take place on Zoom. As a participant of any webinar, you will be asked to read our digital training handbook ahead of the session. And you will be sent a specialised disability-focused handbook after the training. The Zoom link will be sent to you after registration.

Registration for this event is on a first come first served basis. If you register for the event but for whatever reason cannot eventually attend, we require you to let us know by emailing Fatima Ali so that we can allocate your spot to someone else.
