We’re excited to announce the strategic partnership between AsyLex and Asylos to enhance the Rights in Exile (RiE) platform, with a comprehensive Country of Origin Information (COI) section.

What Is COI?

COI serves as key evidence for fact-based evaluations of international protection needs. Accurate, reliable, and up-to-date COI helps decision-makers assess asylum claims by providing objective insights into the socio-economic, political, human rights, and conflict conditions in applicants’ countries of origin.

Yet legal professionals and asylum seekers often face challenges in finding trustworthy resources. By combining Asylos’ expertise in COI research with AsyLex’s experience combining online legal advice with innovation, tech and collaboration, we’re bridging this gap.

Asylos is an international network of over 60 volunteers in 25 countries who provide high-quality Country of Origin Information (COI) research for people claiming asylum and statelessness claims and their representatives around the world.

Together, we are transforming the COI section on the RIE platform into a more powerful, accessible, and regularly updated resource – making it a reference tool for legal professionals, organisations, and asylum seekers globally.

Our Vision: A Collaborative Approach to Legal Information

This partnership marks the first step in a broader vision for the Rights in Exile platform. We’re pioneering a collaborative model where leading organisations manage and update specific sections of the platform, ensuring each area benefits from the highest level of expertise.

Over time, this approach will expand across the platform, involving more specialist organisations—including local partners— who can offer in-depth knowledge in their respective fields and regions. The outcome? A dynamic, technology-driven platform where users can access the most current, reliable asylum-related information, resources, and contacts with a single click.

Building a Global Network for Access to Justice

Beyond enhancing information resources, this collaboration aims to:

Foster connection and knowledge sharing among organisations working in asylum and refugee protection
Expand and strengthen our global network of experts providing high-quality COI and sharing best practices to amplify collective impact
Lower barriers to legal assistance and protection for asylum seekers and refugees worldwide

What’s Next?

The enhanced COI section has been launched as our first collaborative achievement. We’re committed to keeping the Rights in Exile platform up-to-date, relevant, and responsive to the evolving needs of those seeking justice and protection.

By working together to tackle common challenges, particularly the lack of access to reliable legal information, we’re improving both access to justice and efficiency across the asylum sector.
